Tydfil Training Construction Academy Opens Its Doors

The Merthyr Tydfil community came together on Wednesday, 25th February to celebrate the official launch of the Tydfil Training Construction Academy — an exciting new hub dedicated to developing the next generation of skilled construction professionals.

The ribbon was formally cut by the Mayor, Councillor Paula Layton, marking the beginning of an important new chapter for training and opportunity in the area.

Created through collaboration and a shared vision, the Academy provides a modern, hands-on learning environment where young people can gain practical experience, build industry-ready skills, and grow in confidence. With construction continuing to play a key role in the region’s economic future, the facility will help ensure learners are well prepared to progress into Apprenticeships and rewarding careers.

This achievement reflects the strength of partnership working between local organisations committed to investing in people and potential. By bringing education and industry closer together, the Academy offers clear pathways for learners to develop their talents and take meaningful steps toward employment.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who joined us to mark this special occasion, including Councillors Paula Layton and Declan Salmon, College Merthyr Tydfil, Job Centre Plus, Careers Wales, and The Aspire project at Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council. Your continued support plays an important role in helping initiatives like this thrive.
Congratulations to all those involved in making the Academy a reality, and best wishes to the learners who will begin building their futures here.

Apprenticeship Fair Senedd

Tydfil Training were proud to attend the Apprenticeship Fair held yesterday at the Senedd in Cardiff. It was a fantastic event, bringing together training providers, employers and apprentices from across Wales to showcase the incredible opportunities apprenticeships create for individuals and businesses alike.
We were delighted to be joined by our partner employer, General Dynamics, highlighting the strong collaboration between industry and training providers in developing the next generation of skilled professionals.
Pictured is one of our Engineering apprentices, Sam Jones, who represents the dedication, talent and ambition that apprenticeships help to nurture. We are incredibly proud of the hard work and commitment shown by all our learners.
A huge thank you to the organisers for hosting such a well-run and inspiring event. It was a great opportunity to celebrate apprenticeships and the positive impact they continue to have across Wales.

Congratulations to Callum James

We’re delighted to celebrate Callum James’ successful completion of his Level 3 Carpentry Apprenticeship

Callum works at GKR Maintenance & Building Co Ltd, where he is considered a valued member of the team. Anita Barker, Finance & HR Manager, shared that Callum consistently asks valid questions, shows genuine interest, and brings a great attitude to his work — qualities that truly set him apart.

Callum himself sums it up perfectly: “Enjoying what you are doing is the key to success.”

From everyone at Tydfil Training, we’d like to wish Callum the very best of luck with his bright future ahead.

Well done, Callum!

Awards Ceremony Celebrates Learner Achievements at Tydfil Training

A recent awards ceremony at Tydfil Training marked a proud moment as we celebrated the success of two learners from the Jobs Growth Wales+ programme.

Jay Caviel received the Learner of the Year award in recognition of his outstanding commitment and dedication. Throughout his time on the programme, Jay has shown a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and a clear determination to succeed. His progress has been impressive, and this award reflects the effort he has put into developing both his skills and confidence.

Kayla Clark was also recognised at the event, receiving her certificates after completing the Beauty course. Kayla has worked hard to develop her knowledge and practical skills in beauty therapy, and her qualification is a well-earned reward for the time and effort she has invested in her training. She has shown great promise and is now well-equipped to take the next step in her career.

The ceremony was an opportunity for staff and learners to come together and acknowledge the progress being made by those on the programme. It was a reminder of what can be achieved through consistent effort, the right support, and a clear focus on future goals.

Congratulations to both Jay and Kayla on their achievements. We look forward to seeing what they go on to do next.

Celebrating Lilly Phillips – A Rising Star in Engineering

We’re incredibly proud to celebrate Lilly Phillips, who has been recognised for her outstanding achievements in Engineering Manufacture – Level 3 while completing her apprenticeship with Tenneco. 🎉

Lilly has truly embodied excellence in engineering, showcasing remarkable technical skills, a strong work ethic, and a deep commitment to personal growth. From the start, she quickly mastered complex concepts and applied them in real-world situations with confidence and precision.

What makes Lilly’s achievement even more inspiring is her leadership. Despite still being an apprentice herself, she has mentored and supported her colleagues, proving to be a natural leader within her team. Her innovative thinking has also led to improvements in productivity and safety on the shop floor—making a real difference to both her colleagues and her company.

Reflecting on her journey, Lilly shared:
💬 “I’ve had so many opportunities that I didn’t even know would be available to me. I’ve been able to inspire young people and I’ve been recognised for this award – I’m very proud of myself and I’m very grateful to everyone who has got me to this position.”

Her dedication and passion have not gone unnoticed, and it’s no surprise that she has excelled in her professional development, leaving a lasting impact on those around her.
