Engineering and Manufacturing Apprenticeships

The Shared Apprenticeship Programme

Apprenticeships. A Genius Decision.

The Shared Apprenticeship Programme is a strategic partnership between Merthyr Tydfil CBC, Tydfil Training and Merthyr College supported by Cardiff and Vale College.

The Engineering Shared Apprenticeship model has been developed to increase skills within manufacturing and engineering companies, enhance business growth; whilst tackling unemployment and also to provide aspirational opportunities for young people within the Local Authority.

Engineering Apprenticeships typically take between two and four years, depending on the type of Apprenticeship and the level. There is no set time to complete an Apprenticeship, as they vary widely in content and size. The length of time taken will depend on the ability of the individual apprentice and the employer’s requirements.

A strategic partnership for engineering apprenticeships.

How will it benefit you as a Host Employer?

  • Apprentices will be employed by Aspire Merthyr Tydfil and are placed with a host manufacturing company for the duration of the apprenticeship (2-3 years) following a selection process and interview.
  • Aspire will coordinate and manage the recruitment and employment of the apprentice.
  • Aspire will promote the opportunities for host companies to increase business capacity taking the onus off employers
  • Develop and facilitate partnerships with local training providers, colleges & universities to establish learning pathways for new apprentices & to provide additional skills and training within the existing staff teams.
  • Engage with schools to promote recruitment of apprentices for the sector, demonstrating the proposed pathway as being a viable career opportunity, raising aspirations with both male/females and fulfilling the local strategy to engage and reduce NEETS within the 16-24 age cohorts
