Apprenticeships are an exciting option – you get hands-on training and also the chance to put your skills into practice.
Apprenticeships in Wales are jobs that include recognised qualifications and job-specific skills. You earn a wage while you work and learn.
Apprenticeships are available in a wide range of job roles and allow you to gain hands-on experience and the skills you’ll need to progress in your chosen field.
What you earn will depend on the industry, location and type of apprenticeship you choose.
If you’re aged 16 to 18 or in the first year of your apprenticeship, you’re entitled to the apprentice rate.
If you’re 19 or over and have completed the first year of your apprenticeship, you’re entitled to the National Minimum Wage.
This is the minimum you’ll earn – many employers pay a lot more and offer their apprentices a competitive salary.

Not all learning takes place in the classroom so it doesn’t matter if you’ve left school with few qualifications, picked up a load of GCSEs or just finished college – there is an apprenticeship level to suit you.
Your Apprenticeship qualifications are funded through Welsh Government and your employer will pay you a wage. This means you will not have any student loans or tuition fees.

Apprenticeships are available for those who have a disability, health condition or learning difficulty. Almost all apprenticeships can be made accessible and your employer will work with you to ensure you get tailored support to meet your needs so that you can work confidently.
