After only two weeks on the Governments Work Programme, a local Pontypridd man has been able to start his own business, with the support of Tydfil Training.
Steven Streeter, had been unemployed for almost 3 years on and off, and had reached a point of low self-esteem and a place of no hope, when he was referred to Tydfil Training a delivery partner of Work Programme prime contractor Rehab JobFit.
Having been out of work for almost 3 years as a painter and decorator Steven had very little faith that Tydfil Training was going to be able help in him find work. ‘After all what would they be doing that would be any different from the way I job searched and prepared for interviews’.
The training and recruitment specialists helped Steven to rebuild his confidence and explore alternative routes into work.
Steven said he is delighted to have started his own business.
“I am really thrilled to have started Steve’s Home Improvements. When I started with Tydfil Training I was determined to find employment, I just didn’t think I would be working for myself.
“I have always had aspirations to start my own business, but never thought that I would have been able to do it, especially in today’s economic climate. I feel like I have achieved my perfect job.
“I have bought my own van, which now allows me to work outside of Pontypridd. I am now thinking about recruiting some staff because the business is really progressing”.
