This week, young Learners and Staff from Tydfil Training in Merthyr joined forces with Team Members from Central Beacon’s Mountain Rescue who dedicated their time to do some fundraising with a sponsored hike up to the highest point in the Brecon Beacons National Park, namely our one and only Pen-y-Fan.
These young boys and girls, all from the Merthyr and surrounding areas have never attempted such a walk before and took it on as a great challenge.
It was a bright and sunny day and the best we could have wished for. It was a little cool in the wind but warm otherwise. Our group started up the path at around 11:30 and arrived an hour and a half later.
All members of the party made it to the top accompanied by staff from Tydfil Training and our team members.
After taking in the wonderful views and plenty of photos, we made the descent back to the car park where we were treated with a well earned burger. The trainees were all in good spirits even the tired ones and we were told that plans were being made on their way home regarding the next challenge.
Tydfil Training has amazingly offered to match fund any sponsorship raised by these young people today. Due to the great success today, Tydfil Training are looking to put this on the calendar for future groups. Well done to everyone who took part today including all the trainees, staff and CBMRT Team Members.
